Sniper Medal (SM)

The Sniper Medal is awarded to those Marines that are able to reach a pre-defined level of skill using the Sniper Rifle.

For the purpose of the Sniper Medal Weapons Tests (As defined at each level), the weapons that may be used are as follows:

SNIPER RIFLE

In order to prove their skill Marines must pass one of the 3 Sniper Medal tests which are divided thus:

THE BRONZE SNIPER MEDAL

BRONZE tests are conducted at Sgt level by your Squad Sgt. To be successful you must complete each match with a total score that is within 80% of your Sgt’s score.

THE SILVER SNIPER MEDAL

SILVER tests are conducted at DSgt level by your Platoon DSgt. If a Platoon has no DSgt then the Platoon MSgt is to perform this duty. To be successful you must complete each match with a total score that is within 90% of your DSgt’s score.

THE GOLD SNIPER MEDAL

GOLD tests are conducted by your Platoon Lt. If the Platoon MSgt is not performing Silver testing duties then he may assist with these tests, however the Lt is always encouraged to carry out this duty. To be successful a Marine must win every match. A draw is not a win.

AWARDING AUTHORITIES:

Bronze - Squad Sergeant

Silver - Platoon Drill Sergeant or Platoon Master Sergeant

Gold - Platoon Lieutenant or Platoon Master Sergeant

Gold to Lt’s - Command Section of the 101st Colonial Marines

CONDITIONS OF AWARD:

1. BRONZE.

a. Squad Sgts must take the Bronze test through their Platoon DSgt. Squad Sgts cannot test candidates until they hold a Bronze Assault Medal, Sniper Medal, and Heavy Weapons Medal. If a DSgt is not assigned to a Platoon, Sgts must seek a test through the next available SENIOR rank (MSgt, Lt, Command Section).

b. Squad Sgts must only test their own Squad personnel. No other higher or lower ranks may test at Bronze level because this is a responsibility for Squad Sgts alone. In the rare event that a Squad does not have a Sgt, then those personnel that want to be tested must wait until a Sgt is assigned to their Squad.

2. SILVER.

a. DSgts must take the Silver test through their Lt and cannot test candidates until they hold a Silver Assault Medal, Sniper Medal, and Heavy Weapons Medal.

b. If a DSgt has not been assigned to a Platoon then the Platoon MSgt that already holds a Gold or Silver Medal (all 3) is to perform Silver testing duties. If a MSgt is conducting Silver testing duties he must not be involved in Gold Testing.

c. No other higher or lower ranks may conduct tests at Silver level. This is a responsibility for either Platoon DSgts or in their absence, Platoon MSgts alone.

d. Silver level tests can only be carried out following the award of a Bronze Sniper Medal AND following recommendation by the candidates OWN Squad Sgt.

3. GOLD.

a. Lts and MSgts must take the Gold test through their next available SENIOR rank in the Command Staff and cannot test candidates until they hold a Gold Assault Medal, Sniper Medal, and Heavy Weapons Medal.

b. No other higher or lower ranks may conduct tests at Gold level. This is a responsibility for Lts and MSgts alone.

c. Gold level tests can only be carried out following the award of a Silver Sniper Medal AND following recommendation by the candidates Platoon DSgt (Or MSgt if performing Silver testing duties).

4. GENERAL CONDITIONS.

a. Cadets and other Reservists cannot take the tests.

b. For Bronze and Silver tests, scores that are exactly on the passmark are considered a pass.

c. For Bronze and Silver tests the final score of every match is required to work out the total scores of the candidate and the Examiner. It may therefore be wise to take screenshots.

d. The Examiners word is final. There will be no disputes. If a Candidate wishes to appeal against any decision or style of gameplay he may do so to Command Staff, on the condition that EVIDENCE is provided in the form of screenshots. No Evidence = No Appeal.

e. Only the most recent Sniper Medal awarded can be worn in the approved location on your record card.

5. GENERAL RULES OF PLAY FOR ALL LEVELS OF TEST.

a. DO NOT SK! However, it is a fact of the game that SK’s do sometimes happen by accident.  In the event of a SK the perpetrator is to commit suicide and thereby remove the kill from his score. For the purpose of these tests an SK is defined as:

    i. Any kill where the opponent is killed, during or immediately after spawning, when he is armed with a knife and before he has selected any other weapon. If the spawning player can see the opponent he should move to an area where he is no longer visible to the opponent, however when moving he must ALWAYS be armed with the knife. As soon as the spawned player has selected another weapon he may be killed. As long as the player is armed with the knife and in view of the other opponent he may not be killed. As soon as the spawning player moves out of view he may be killed the next time he is seen.

b. Suicides happen and are a sign of panic and carelessness. Suicide will not be compensated for. Be careful and don’t kill yourself.

c. Examiners may use limited spamming tactics and crouch walking to see how the candidate copes (See notes to Examiners below).

d. Candidates are not to camp excessively, crouch walk, or use the sniper rifle exploit to a degree that is unfair. If at anytime the Examiner witnesses these exploits being used to a degree that is unfair, a clear warning is to be issued. If the Candidate continues to use these exploits the test is to be terminated immediately.

e. Other than these there are no other rules except within the constraints of these regulations and these are not to be breached.

6. NOTES TO EXAMINERS.

a. These tests are designed to examine the skill of the candidate, not only in the use of his firearm but also his awareness of the game and tactical knowledge of each map. While a pass is decided by score, you also need to constantly assess how he uses his ‘Game Brain’. You need to be checking his use of motion tracker and shoulder lamp and check that he is using ammo, health and armour with maximum efficiency. These test regulations provide the framework for the examiner to do this.

b. The examiner should also use a wide range of tactics from ‘Nade’ and ‘Disc Spamming’ to ‘Camping’, however that does not mean the examiner is to ‘Camp’ or ‘Spam’ for the duration of the whole test. ‘Wide’ and ‘Range’ are the key words here and the examiner must give the candidate every opportunity to show his skills whilst not giving him free kills. The examiner is to use as many classes within the species as possible.

7. APPEALS.

You must be mature and set an example. Do not be a bad looser. Do not warn somebody for using exploits or spamming simply because they are winning. Equally, while you must use some spamming to test the candidate, do not resort to using exploits in an attempt to gain the upperhand. If you do you may find your actions are captured in screenshots and an appeal raised against you. If you are judged to be guilty your right to wear your Assault Medal will be revoked and you will not be allowed to test.

8. STANDARDS.

Above all, while we want Marines to pass this test, we do not want to make it easy for them as this will degrade the meaning of the medals. You must train to keep your standards high. The Training Medal Programmes have not only been implemented to reward Marines for hard training but also to help OOS Marines to keep their skill levels from fading.
